The Indian Law Institute (ILI) is known as Autonomous Indian Law Institute based in New Delhi, which was inaugurated by 1st president of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad on 12, December  1957. The Institute stands as ‘Center for Excellence’ in the law stream. ILI is conducting Common Admissions Test (CAT) annually in the month of April for admissions to Programmes such as Ph. D. in Law, Online Certificate courses, LL.M. 1 Year Degree course, LL.M. – 2 Year Degree course, and Post Graduate Diploma Programmes. Eligibility Criteria for ILICAT 2017


For Ph.D. in Law

Applicants with LLM degree from approval institute with Minimum 55% marks is eligible to apply.

For LLM 1 year program / LLM 2 year program

Applicants hold LL.B. Degree with minimum 50% marks from any University or Institution approval by Bar Council of India are eligible to apply.

Applicants with a law degree from a foreign country approval by an eminent university, with at least 50% marks in aggregate and equivalent grade are eligible to apply.

For P.G. Diploma Programmes


  • Applicants holds Graduate Degree from an approval University is eligible to apply. Law UG will get 5% weight-age for admission to all PG Diploma Courses.

  • The applicants who passed 5 years LL.B course from approval organization are eligible for taking admissions in any Post Graduate Diploma Programmes at ILI. 5 seats of each program are reserved for these applicants.

Note: The list of PG Diploma courses offered by ILI is Alternative Dispute Resolution, Cyber Law, Human Rights Law, Corporate Laws and Management, Labour Law and Intellectual Property Rights Laws.

For Online Certificate courses

Anyone applicant who is studied/studying Diploma or degree after 12th or having knowledge about the Internet eligibility Criteria can apply for online Certificate Courses.

ILICAT 2017 Exam pattern


The applicants did SLET, UGC NET/ JRF, and M. Phil is exempted from writing ILI CAT 2017.

Written Examination: The total time duration of written test will be of 3 hours. The shortlisted applicants will invite for Presentation of their Research Proposal / Interview.

Master of Laws (LL.M.) – 1 Year Programme & LL.M. 2 Year Programme General Information applicant applying for LL.M. – 1 Year and LL.M. – 2 Year Program must fill separate application form for applicants. The questions asking for the examination are for Testing Aptitude for Research, Legal Reasoning & Comprehensions and Basic Knowledge in different branches of Law. The institute will invite the selected applicants for participating viva-voice over conducting at the institute.

ILICAT 2017 Exam pattern (all tests)


The ILI CAT 2017 consists of 3 parts

Part 1: This Will consists of 40 questions to check the applicant’s English Language proficiency.

Part 2: This will consist of 100 objective type questions from subjects such as Environmental Law, Law of Torts, I P C, Public International Law, Law of Limitation, Commercial Law (Contract / Specific Relief Act, Partnership / Sale of Goods Act), Constitutional Law, and Jurisprudence.

Part 3: This part will consist of four subjective type questions to test legal writing skills of the aspirant.

ILICAT 2017 Application Form


The application form of Common Admissions Test can collect from ILI at New Delhi. The duly filled application form should be submitted in person or by Speed Post/ Registered Post/ Courier/ Messenger to address ‘Registrar, Indian Law Institute, Bhagwan Das Road, New Delhi 110 001’ with demand draft DD fee.

Note: If the application fee is downloaded from official website of the institute, then extra of Rs. 1,000/-will taken along with demand draft DD fee

Application Fee for Ph.D. program: Rs. 2,000/

Application Fee for LL.M. – 1 Year Program: Rs.1,500/-

Application Fee for LL.M. – 2 Year Program: Rs.1,500/-

Application Fee for PG Diploma Programmes: Rs.1,000/-

The institute will offer Admit card or the Roll No. at the time of submission of application form physically or same will be sent by post as well.

ILICAT 2017 Result


Examination results publish online as well as notice board of the institute. Notification regarding result declaration date will release on all major dailies.
